individual biographies


carolyn m. evertson (pre-service teacher education task force) is professor of education emerita, and associate dean for graduate education at peabody college, vanderbilt university. her research has focused on research on teaching and classroom management and research on mentoring and new teacher assistance. she received her doctorate in educational psychology and baccalaureate degree in elementary education from the university of texas, austin. while at peabody college, vanderbilt, she has directed several federally funded projects on classroom teaching and teacher education. her writings include over 100 chapters, articles, and books on teacher education, learning in classrooms and research on teaching. dr. evertson is interested in the social contexts of classrooms and how these contexts influence what students have an opportunity to learn and how learning gets defined by students and teachers.
