patricia
ann byrd (pre-service teacher
education task force), director of cerra, is an informed
advocate for the teaching profession, non-partisan advisor to legislators
and teacher/administrator organizations and a resource for higher
education teacher preparation programs. in addition to her work
on the state level, she sits on the nbpts® board of directors.
ms. byrd earned a bachelor's degree in secondary english education
from the university of south carolina and a master's degree in secondary
english education from winthrop university. she is enrolled in the
education leadership doctoral program in k-12 curriculum and instruction
with a cognate in administration at the university of south carolina.
she earned national board certification® in english language
arts for adolescents and young adults in november of 2000. after
a total of seven years working with teacher cadets and 13 years
in the classroom as an english and journalism teacher, ms. byrd
served as a teacher in residence for three years and a program director
for one year at cerra (formerly the south carolina center for teacher
recruitment) in rock hill, south carolina, prior to becoming the
director in july, 2000.
