d. participants and those served
the direct
participants in the proposed project will be the 24 teachers recruited
from the partner school districts. the recruitment process will
be initiated by the center in august. the center director, with
support from the advisory committee will develop an application
process that outlines the criteria for participation.
the application
process will include the following:
• application
forms;
• a flyer containing relevant information about the projects
goals, immersion sessions and work products;
• qualifications for participation (minimum of five years
of effective teaching, recommendation of school principal and/or
superintendent).
all application
materials will be sent to partner schools to the attention of the
superintendent for distribution to school sites. all applications
will be returned to the center by early september. the center director,
with support from the advisory council, will make the final selections.
the teachers
selected as participants will be supported by the center’s
consulting faculty throughout the lifetime of the project. teachers
will be compensated for time spent in the immersion sessions ($1950/year).
they may choose to receive an honorarium for their time or they
may choose to receive a “credit” to be used toward the
payment of tuition for graduate study or for attendance at a conference
of their choice. teachers will also receive dinner on friday night
and lunch on saturday while participating in immersion sessions
housed on the fmu campus. the ultimate beneficiaries of the project’s
work will be the children of poverty in attendance at partner schools.
after the instructional units are field tested and revised, they
will be published and available to all teachers in south carolina.
