fmu center of excellence
itq grant proposal narrative

2. proposal narrative

d. participants and those served

the direct participants in the proposed project will be the 24 teachers recruited from the partner school districts. the recruitment process will be initiated by the center in august. the center director, with support from the advisory committee will develop an application process that outlines the criteria for participation.

the application process will include the following:

• application forms;
• a flyer containing relevant information about the projects goals, immersion sessions and work products;
• qualifications for participation (minimum of five years of effective teaching, recommendation of school principal and/or superintendent).

all application materials will be sent to partner schools to the attention of the superintendent for distribution to school sites. all applications will be returned to the center by early september. the center director, with support from the advisory council, will make the final selections.

the teachers selected as participants will be supported by the center’s consulting faculty throughout the lifetime of the project. teachers will be compensated for time spent in the immersion sessions ($1950/year). they may choose to receive an honorarium for their time or they may choose to receive a “credit” to be used toward the payment of tuition for graduate study or for attendance at a conference of their choice. teachers will also receive dinner on friday night and lunch on saturday while participating in immersion sessions housed on the fmu campus. the ultimate beneficiaries of the project’s work will be the children of poverty in attendance at partner schools. after the instructional units are field tested and revised, they will be published and available to all teachers in south carolina.
