Center of Excellence
Partner Districts
Partner Districts
are intimately involved with, and contribute to, the activities
of the Center. Administrators and teachers of the Partner Districts
work hand-in-glove with FMU faculty to determine how best to prepare
teachers, initially and continually, to teach children of poverty.
Three Partner
Districts were identified at the outset of Grant Year 1 (2004-2005).
These Partner Districts each contributed $5000 toward the operation
and activities of the Center of Excellence.
Several Pee
Dee Region School Districts requested the opportunity to join with
the Center of Excellence as Partner Districts during Grant Year
2 (2005-2006). Four additional school districts, for a total of
seven districts, joined the Center of Excellence as Partners. A
sliding scale based on the number of K-8 teachers in the district,
was used to determine Partner District fees. These costs were assessed
as follows: $7500 (100 or fewer K-8 teachers), $10,000 (100-300
K-8 teachers); $12,500 (300 or more K-8 teachers).
Partner districts
are each represented by an outstanding teacher that serves with
the Center in the capacity of Clinical Faculty. Clinical Faculty
must hold at least a maser's degree and must have a minimum of five
years of teaching experience. Clinical Faculty position announcements
are released annually, and final selections are announced by July
1. These Partner District representatives serve a twelve month term
beginning August 1, and receive a $3000 honorarium for service.
Partner districts
are also represented by an upper level administrative officer. These
representatives serve as the designated contact for the district.
