EDUC 555 – Introduction to Educational Programs for Children of Poverty

Course Description:

This course and its required clinical experiences are designed to provide graduate students with an initial study of issues related to life in poverty and the impact they have on teaching and learning.  It includes an introductory study of six standards for teachers of children of poverty, including:   life in poverty; the classroom community; family and community partnerships; curriculum design, instructional strategies and assessment; relationship-driven classroom management; and teachers as learners, leaders and advocates to improve curriculum, instruction, and assessment in schools serving large numbers of children of poverty.   This course is required for all Center of Excellence Scholars.

 

Type of Credit:

This graduate level course will apply toward Add On Certification for Teachers of Children of Poverty. Any use of this course in a graduate program of study must be approved by the receiving institution. Field work and assignments are required. Grades will be posted in December 2013.

 

Tuition:  $700

Professional Development 

Course Description:

Type of Credit:

This graduate professional development course may be used for recertification credit.   Any use of this course in a graduate program of study is unlikely and should be approved in advance by the receiving institution. Field work and assignments are required.  This course DOES NOT REQUIRE A FINAL PROJECT.  Grades will be posted in December 2013.
