Some Indiana teachers describe how students’ use of abbreviations when texting can affect their schoolwork where more formal language is required. For instance, English teacher Debbie Kinner said she sets expectations early in the school year to restrict the use of “text-speak” and requires students to write notecards and journals to improve learning.
