Eighth-graders and first-graders at a North Carolina middle school and elementary school, respectively — and their teachers — are collaborating on science and literacy projects. The older students help their younger ones with reading aloud and science projects, and the students also exchange notes in journals, which has boosted the writing skills of all of the students, said first-grade teacher Iesha Patterson.
