Twenty-four universities in South Carolina have adopted a program — dubbed “Call me MISTER” — aimed at providing support to help men of color become classroom teachers. Black men and Hispanic men each make up about 2% of teachers in the US at a time when the student population is growing more diverse, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
