Educators urged to teach students how to use feedback.

Teachers can improve the feedback they provide to students by, among other tips, keeping it specific, connecting comments to learning goals and developing a positive classroom culture, according to research presented at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association in Chicago. Martin Van Boekel, an assistant professor of educational psychology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, says students need instruction on how to use feedback to improve their learning and to use it “as information rather than just a score.”
