Teachers and administrators beginning the school year remotely may face similar challenges they experienced in the spring encouraging virtual attendance and engagement. Justin Reich, director of the Teaching Systems Lab at MIT, says the lessons of the last school year could help teachers identify which students are likely not to engage, but warns that many issues preventing participation may be out of their control.
