Close to 50% of children and teens didn’t receive the recommended 420 minutes of physical activity per week and 5% didn’t engage in any exercise, according to a study presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics’ annual meeting. The findings, based on data involving medical records from 7,822 youths ages 5 to 18, should prompt the inclusion of exercise among the “vital signs” evaluated during routine pediatric health checks, researchers said.
