Michelle Brown was teaching students from low-income backgrounds at a small rural school in Mississippi when she reached breaking point. There was simply no way she could cater to all their needs as their reading abilities spanned seven grade levels.Yet the fervent teacher also realized that without her help the most marginalized—those who perhaps didn’t even speak English as their first language—would be left behind.
