Transportation expenses can be more than 10% of school districts’ budgets, and administrators in some states are reducing costs by planning more efficient routes and by adopting new technology. In Boston, officials expect to save between $3 million and $5 million for the 2018 academic year with efficiencies discovered through the use of MIT’s supercomputer network.
