Hip-hop is an effective way for students to find their voice and work through emotional issues, writes Anthony Pineda, hip-hop music and production teacher at Cristo Rey San Jose in California. Pineda, who credits hip-hop for saving his life as a troubled youth, says the music lets students connect with culture, nurture identity and find freedom from their “emotional cages.”
