Youths with poorly controlled asthma had more school absences, fewer completed assignments and worse work quality, compared with those with well-controlled asthma, researchers reported in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. The findings, based on data involving 445 children ages 7 to 9, also showed that the links between poor asthma status and control, increased asthma symptoms, reduced lung functioning and low academic achievement were stronger among minorities, especially Hispanics.
