Seventh-grade English teacher Joshua Sensabaugh says integrating the visual and performing arts into his classroom has helped students increase their reading comprehension. Sensabaugh, who teaches at Dodson Middle School in Los Angeles, says states and schools should fund on-site professional development aimed at helping teachers bring the arts into their curricula, particularly in lower-income districts.
