When students are struggling, teachers can strengthen students’ resilience by using “Habits of Mind” such as cultivating wonder and awe as well as remaining open to learning new things, writes special-education teacher Daniel Vollrath. In this commentary, he outlines steps for building resilience including fostering optimism and using brainteasers to build persistence.
