Teachers in the Lamar County School District in Mississippi noticed some children didn’t have enough to eat, so the district partnered with a local group to give those students meals to take home on Fridays through a backpack program, say social worker Latressa Young and Superintendent Tess Smith. Young works with school counselors to identify students for the program, which has served 276 children.
