Chicago librarians are visiting laundromats in low-income neighborhoods to read to children and support early childhood education through the Laundromat Story Time program. “It’s an unlikely place in a lot of ways,” says Brian Bannon, commissioner and CEO of the Chicago Public Library, which organizes the program, “but it’s a likely place in that it’s a traditional area where kids and parents go.”
