Laura Hilb is a Nurse Practitioner who received training from the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. In this workshop, Laura will provide an overview of research on mindfulness, guide formal and informal mindfulness practices, and discuss ways to integrate present-moment awareness into daily life. The Center of Excellence to Prepare Teachers of Children of Poverty is hosting a Teaching American History One Day Seminar on Saturday August 24, 2019 at the Pee Dee Education Center on the campus of Francis Marion University. This seminar, FREE TO ALL PARTICIPANTS, will use primary source documents to engage teachers in a conversation about the nation's founding principles. A Pre-Conference Poverty Simulation is scheduled for Tuesday,  June 16. This half-day event is designed to promote greater awareness, increase understanding, and inspire local change.  Attendees role-play four 15-minute 'weeks' in poverty and the stressors faced by many under-resourced families.
