Child poverty increased sharply in 2022 as pandemic-era government supports expired and families continued to face rising costs. This article examines U.S. Census Bureau data showing that child poverty more than doubled while median household income declined. The findings highlight how changes in family financial resources and broader economic conditions can quickly affect the number of children living in poverty.
