To address disappointing reading scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, the Educational Testing Service has released assessment-based solutions to the nation’s “reading crisis.” The tools are designed to identify gaps in skills or knowledge, but the testing service cautions that outside influences, such as students’ home environment, are factors in achievement.
